Events of
the Week: Our theme was spring. We spent the week learning about how the
season affects plants, animals and people.
Math: We spent the week
reviewing numbers 11-19 and practicing how to correctly form these
numbers. We also played several games to
review addition and subtraction.
Language Workshop: This week we read three informational books
about spring. The students wrote about
key details they learned from the books.
We discussed the changes we are seeing outside. We learned about how the weather changes in
spring and how the behavior of animals and people change as well.
Writing
Workshop: This week we
reviewed opinion writing. Students wrote an opinion piece on which center they
like the best. We are working on adding
detail to our writing. Our sentence
writing is getting better every day!
Continue to practice writing sentences at home.
Reading
Workshop: During our
center time this week we were taking the NWEA test. I look forward to discussing your child’s
score at conferences.
Word Study: Each day we practiced making words. We have been practicing blending sounds to help
us become better readers. Blends we cover
are sh, wh, th, ch, and many more.

Reading
Challenge
Our last reading
challenge of the year was sent home at the beginning of the week. Please take a few moments each night to read
with your child. It’s a wonderful
opportunity to spend quality time together, but more importantly, it sends the
message that reading and school are important.
Don’t forget: you can use the books from their book bags towards the
challenge. The Reading Challenge is due
Thursday, May 11th. Happy
Reading!
Next Week:
§ We will learn about plants.
§ We will finish our unit in math on composing numbers.
§ Our sight words will be “was”
