Events of the Week: This week we started an Author Study on Laura Numeroff.
- Language Workshop: We read several books written by Laura Numeroff (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give a Dog a Donut, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, If You give a Moose a Muffin, and If you Give a Pig a Pancake). We identified the characters and setting and practiced retelling the stories.
- Writing Workshop: We introduced series of events writing. We spent the week sequencing events in the right order. We discussed that for our writing to make sense it has to be written in the correct order.
- Reading Workshop: Students are working daily in Literacy Centers. I am beginning to call each student up to read with them independently to determine their end of year reading level.
- Word Study: We spent the week practicing correctly forming letters.
- Math: We began a unit on solid figures (cylinder, cone, cube, and sphere). The students enjoyed learning about these new shapes and finding them in our classroom.
Important Dates:
- April 25 - Make a Wish night (at the high school ball fields)
- April 26 - Kindergarten Field Trip
- April 27 & 28 - Kindergarten Screening (K students will have school)
- May 16th- Last Day of School. We will dismiss at 11:00. (Breakfast will be served, lunch will NOT be served)
Next Week:
- We will continue our author study on Laura Numeroff.
- In math we will continue learning about solid figures.
- We will continue working on our sequence writing.
- During word study we will learn about suffixes.
- Our sight words will be “so”.
