Events
of the Week:
Math: In math, we completed our unit on measurement. We have been using math words, such as
length, longest, shortest, height, taller, capacity, weight and so on. Ask your child to put your family members in order
from tallest to shortest.
Language Workshop: Our theme
this week was Colors. Our big book for
the week was Rain. We’ve been
focusing on naming the parts of a book (front cover, back cover and title
page). We also have been learning to
name the jobs of both the author (writes the words) and illustrator (draws the
pictures). Look for these assessments in
your child’s folder. As always, if
he/she is not proficient in these skills, then please practice them at home
because I will reassess at least one more time before the end of the
quarter.
Reading Workshop: We continued Literacy Centers this week. I was able to meet with some small groups to
work on making a color book and practicing color words. Other students were engaged in individual and
small group work on several literary skills we have learned so far. Very
proud of my class and how well they are doing with this.
Writing Workshop: We continued
to work on the correct way to write letter of the alphabet. We worked on correctly forming the letters Cc
and Hh. The sight word we learned was “like”.
Word Study: We continued
our letter study by learning the letters Cc and Hh. We worked on identifying each letter, writing
it correctly and saying its sound.

Reading
Journey
I hope you
are finding time each day to read with your child. Make this a special
time for you and your child and have fun! I love hearing what your child
is reading at home and the different places they are reading around the
house. When reading with your children, please encourage them to point
out our sight words and letters we have learned.
The Cox Care Mobile is scheduled to be at Clever Schools on October 6, 2016.
The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides FREE services for
children ages birth to 18 years. You may call the school nurse to inquire
about the services provided, to schedule an appointment and to receive the
necessary paperwork. Thank you!
