Thursday/Friday Note :)

NO SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!

Events of the Week:
Math:  We finished up our unit on positional words and then started our unit on measurement.  We are learning to compare objects by length.  Next week we will work on comparing by height, capacity, and weight.  Your child’s positional words assessment went home yesterday.  I’m so happy with how well students did on this assessment!  If a student didn’t score proficient, we will keep working on the skill at school and I will reassess them at a later date.  Any extra practice at home is appreciated.
Language Workshop:  This week we read several color books and began our focus on identifying colors and color words.  We read Who Said Red?, Elmer, A Color of My Own, and Emeraldalicious.   We introduced the colors red, green, blue, and brown.  We started writing in our reading logs this week.  Each day we focused on one color, drew objects that are that color, and then labeled the picture.  The students did a great job with this new activity.
Reading Workshop:  We started literacy centers this week!  I am so proud of how well students have done with this.  Since this was the first week I walked around to make sure students were on task at their center and answered any questions they had.  I was impressed at how well they were able to go to their correct center, follow expectations, and get their job done in a quiet manner.  Some of the work they do at literacy centers I check, however some of the work I have them take home without checking.
Writing Workshop:  We have been practicing correctly forming the letters we are learning.  We are also practicing writing using whiteboards and shaving cream in the classroom :)
We have also been focusing on writing our names correctly.  *Name homework is coming home today.  Please read the directions carefully! When practicing at home, please make sure the first letter is capitalized and the rest are lowercase.
Word Study/Content Workshop:  Our sight word for this week was “my”.  The letters “Nn” and “Pp” were our letters of the week.  We worked on identifying each letter, writing it correctly, and saying its sound.
Thank you so much to the families who came to Grandparent’s Day!
*If you are signed up on SeeSaw you should be able to see the picture of your child with their grandparent from Grandparents Day. :)

Reading Journey
I hope you are finding time each day to read with your child.  Make this a special time for you and your child and have fun!  I love hearing what your child is reading at home and the different places they are reading around the house.  When reading with your children, please encourage them to point out our sight words and letters we have learned.
